State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness

Your Child's STAAR Score Does Not Have to Be a Source of Stress.

Every year, students across Texas sit for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, and every year, thousands of families are left wondering why their child did not perform the way they expected. The truth is, most students do not struggle with STAAR because they lack ability. They struggle because they have not been taught how to approach the test strategically.

At Coombs Test Prep and Tutoring Hub, we do not believe in simply teaching students to pass a test. We believe in building the academic foundation that makes passing the test a natural outcome. When a student truly understands the material, the score takes care of itself.

What Is the STAAR Test?

The STAAR is the standardized assessment used by the State of Texas to measure whether students have mastered the grade-level knowledge and skills outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum. Students in grades 3 through 12 take STAAR assessments in core subjects including reading, mathematics, writing, science, and social studies. These scores are used to determine grade promotion, course credit, and in some cases, graduation eligibility.

The stakes are real. A student who does not meet grade-level standards on the STAAR may face retention, mandatory tutoring interventions, or the need to retake the exam. That is why preparation matters, and that is why starting early makes all the difference.

How We Prepare Your Child for STAAR Success

Our STAAR preparation is not a one-size-fits-all workbook. Every student receives a personalized learning plan built around their specific strengths and areas for growth. Here is what that looks like:

Diagnostic Assessment

We begin with a complimentary diagnostic to identify exactly which TEKS standards your child has mastered and which ones need reinforcement. No guessing. No assumptions. Just data

Targeted Instruction

Every session focuses on the specific skills your child needs to develop. If they struggle with inferencing in reading, we work on inferencing. If they struggle with multi-step math problems, we target multi-step problems. We never waste time on material your child already knows.

Test-Taking Strategies

Knowing the content is only half the battle. We teach students how to read STAAR questions strategically, eliminate wrong answer choices, manage their time, and approach passage-based questions with confidence

Practice with Real STAAR-Format Questions

Familiarity reduces anxiety. We expose students to the exact types of questions they will see on test day so nothing feels unfamiliar or surprising when it matters most

Progress Monitoring

We track your child's progress through ongoing assessments and provide you with regular updates. You will never have to wonder how your child is doing. We will tell you.
