Reading comprehension tutoring, grades 3 through 12
That gap is one of the most common reasons a bright student’s grades start slipping, and it rarely shows up as a reading problem. It shows up as a math problem, a science problem, a “does not follow directions” comment on a progress report. By middle school, nearly every subject is a reading subject.
We offer one-on-one, fully online reading instruction, delivered live through Zoom or Google Meet.
What we teach
Grades 3 through 5
Reading Comprehension and Critical Literacy.
Building the habits that carry a reader through longer texts. Finding the main idea, tracking what a pronoun refers to, using context to unlock unfamiliar vocabulary, distinguishing what the text says from what the student already believed, and reading a question carefully enough to answer the one that was asked.
Grades 6 through 8
Critical Reading Comprehension and Text Analysis.
The work gets harder here, and so does the instruction. Inference and evidence, author's purpose and point of view, structure and argument, comparing how two texts treat the same subject, and handling the dense informational passages that dominate standardized tests.
Grades 9 through 12.
Close reading of complex fiction and nonfiction, analyzing rhetoric and argument, and the reading stamina that college level coursework and admissions tests demand.
Our approach
Instruction is direct and explicit. We name the skill, model it, practice it together, then hand it over. Your child learns not just the answer but how a strong reader arrived at it, which is the part that transfers to the next passage and the one after that.
Our founder teaches reading comprehension directly and holds Texas certification in Special Education alongside her Generalist certification for grades 4 through 8. Students who read below grade level, students with accommodations, and students who have simply decided they are “not readers” are all welcome here.

A plan built on that assessment
We start with the skills that will unlock the most, not with page one of a curriculum.
One-on-one instruction
Live sessions with texts chosen for your child's level and interests, because a student who is bored will not practice.
Reading between sessions
